Laboratory Test Preparation & Specimen Collection Instructions

Proper preparation is essential for accurate diagnostic results. Following these instructions helps ensure that your clinical samples are of high quality, preventing the need for repeat testing and providing your doctor with the most precise health data possible.

General Preparation Guidelines

  • Fasting: Many tests require no food or drink (except water) for 8 to 12 hours. Please check your specific request.
  • Medications: Continue taking maintenance medications unless your physician explicitly tells you to stop before the test.
  • Hydration: Drink plenty of water unless otherwise instructed. Staying hydrated makes blood collection easier and safer.
  • Timing: Most routine blood tests are best performed in the morning (between 6:00 AM and 10:00 AM) when hormone levels are stable.
